Some stakeholders and shareholders in the Japanese Geoparks Network have the misunderstanding that a geopark is a geological park, because geologists have played important roles from the beginning of the geopark movement in Japan. The Global Geoparks Network guidelines, however, state that geoparks must have ecological, archaeological, historical, and cultural value. A geographical perspective is useful and important for understanding the relationship between nature and culture. A geostory and\/or geonarrative created by geographical research in each geopark provide telling clues about the resolution of local issues. The result is that the geopark movement affects sustainable regional
